Custom Knife Commissions

Every knife that leaves my studio is made to order. There’s no inventory, no off-the-shelf options, no mass production. Each blade is forged individually with intention—and that means every commission is an opportunity to create something perfect for the person who’s ordering it.

If you want a knife that’s tailored to how you cook, your hand size, your preferences, and your vision, I can make it. This is custom work in the truest sense.

What’s Possible

When we work together on a commission, we’re not limited to standard offerings.

You can specify the blade profile—a slightly taller blade for more rocking motion, a lower profile for precise cuts, something in between. You can choose your handle material and shape. You can request specific dimensions and balance points. You can add personalization—engraving your name, a date, a phrase that means something to you.

I also work with restaurant groups and high-volume kitchens to create sets tailored to their specific needs. If you run a restaurant or catering operation and need custom knife sets, we can discuss specifications, timelines, and pricing.

The possibilities extend as far as your imagination and the requirements of good knife design allow.

The Process

Commissioning a knife is straightforward, but intentional.

First, you reach out with your ideas. I’ll send you a form to fill out—information about how you cook, what you’re looking for, any specific requests you have. From there, we schedule a consultation (by phone or video) to talk through your vision in detail.

Once we’ve aligned on the design, I begin forging. You’ll receive updates as the blade progresses, and you’ll have the opportunity to approve the final product before it ships. The entire process is transparent and collaborative.

Finally, your custom knife arrives. It comes with care instructions and any personalization you’ve requested—the blade bears the mark of being made specifically for you.

Timeline

Commissions for the Artisan Collection typically take 8–12 months from order to delivery.

This timeline reflects the reality of handmade work. I forge every blade individually, and I don’t rush. The process can’t be sped up without compromising quality. When you order a custom knife, you’re entering into a commitment to patience—but the result is worth the wait.

Shorter timelines may be possible depending on my current queue, so feel free to inquire. But plan for 8–12 months as a realistic expectation.

Pricing

Custom commissions start at approximately $800 for a chef knife, depending on specifications.

The final price depends on factors like blade length, handle material, complexity of engraving, and whether you’re ordering a single knife or a set. Restaurant commissions are priced individually based on volume and specifications.

During the consultation, I’ll provide a clear quote before any work begins.

How to Start

Ready to commission a knife? Here’s what to do.

Visit the commission request form on this website and fill out your information. Tell me about how you cook, what you’re looking for, any specific requests or preferences you have. Include photos of your hands holding your current knife if you want me to get the size right. The more detail you provide, the better I can understand your vision.

I’ll follow up within a few days to schedule a consultation. From there, we’ll refine the design together until we’ve landed on something perfect.

What You’re Getting

A custom commission isn’t just a knife. It’s collaboration with a craftsperson who cares deeply about the work.

Every commission I make gets my full attention. I think about your request constantly while I’m forging. I consider the balance, the edge, the finish, the personality of the blade. I want you to open the package and feel like I made something specifically for you—because I did.

When you pick up that knife for the first time, you’ll feel the difference. The balance will be exactly right for your hand. The blade profile will match how you cook. The handle will fit you. And it’ll be beautiful—a tool and an object of appreciation at the same time.

This is the highest level of what I do. If you’re ready to invest in something truly custom, truly made for you, let’s talk.
